What is FLE?

What is FLE? Who are the teachers?

FLE (French as a Foreign Language) is the learning of French for foreigners in an academic, professional, cultural or leisure context. It is a specialized discipline in the field of education, dedicated to non-native speakers of French.

FLE teachers are not simply French teachers, like those who teach in middle or high schools in France. They have followed a specialized university training or have significant experience, whether in France or abroad. These teachers often hold a Master’s degree in the teaching of French as a Foreign language (FLE), a University Diploma in French as a Foreign Language (D.U.), or a certification issued by recognized organizations.

The teaching of FLE is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This framework includes not only language learning, but also the integration of cultural elements specific to French culture and daily life in France.

To guarantee the quality of teaching, the FLE Quality label is awarded to schools specializing in this area. Groupement FLE, made up of 48 schools, brings together these certified institutions to offer high-quality French language learning experience in France.
